Senior Ashley McCray did not enter her freshman year with the intent of being valedictorian but that is exactly how she is finishing her high school career.
“It was not until halfway through my junior year that I decided to maintain a 4.0 GPA and that challenge motivated me through the rest of high school,” McCray said.
One of McCray’s greatest struggles was finding time to study and to complete all of her assignments. One class that consumed more time than others was AP Language and Composition her junior year.
McCray has completed all but three classes needed for her Associates of Arts degree through dual enrollment. She plans to finish the rest this summer and then attend UCF in the fall. She will double major in Health Sciences and Health Services Administration.
“I chose this major because I am interested in the human body and business and would like to have a career in health services administration and help run a hospital,” McCray said.
McCray was a member of National Honor Society and Math Club. She acknowledges procrastination was a problem, but worked hard to have better time management and stay dedicated.
“[My advice to underclassmen is] do not slack off your freshman year,” McCray said. “Have good time management and dedication.”
