[slideshow_deploy id=’84087′]Even with a rigorous school schedule, valedictorian Jessica Edwards stayed involved in multiple activities and developed an interest in political science.

Keeping a 4.0 GPA remained important for Edwards because she wanted to qualify as a competitive college applicant, as well as be the best student she could possibly be. She believes that it took a good work ethic, developed goals and a consistent support group to become a valedictorian. Other than these qualities, Edwards struggles with procrastination.

“My tendency to procrastinate [is my least valedictorian like quality]. It is definitely not the ideal characteristic for my heavy workload,” Edwards said.

Edwards considers being awarded the Florida winner of the DAR Good Citizen Award as one of her biggest achievements in high school. Getting an award like this a student must stay motivated to do her best. Edwards feels her teachers and peers remain her biggest motivators in influencing her success and helping her realize her full potential.

In addition to being focused on her academics, Edwards participated in FCA, Math Club, Mu Alpha Theta, HOSA, tennis, Baking Braves, AWYS and Young Republicans.

When she is not busy studying or fulfilling club obligations, Edwards likes to spend time outdoor and get together with her friends to eno.

“I love being outdoors and hanging out with friends,” Edwards said.

Just as she has done, Edwards feels it is important for students to take advanced classes in high school, base those courses off of a student’s interest and enjoy time with friends.

“Take advantage of honors and AP classes. Build your course load to reflect your intended major and find a meaningful way to spend your summers,” Edwards said.

Unsure of what college to attend, Edwards plans to major in political science and government. She feels these subjects will eventually help prepare her for law school.
