As pageant contestants walk gracefully down the runway, keeping eye contact with the judges, hopes to win first place. The Junior Class  is sponsoring a male personality contest on Tuesday, March 23, in an effort to raise money.

“We wanted to do something fun and different. We heard of schools doing fashion shows before, so we thought we’d do a spin off,” Junior Class president Taylor Dudley said.

With the goal to raise $2,500, the profit will be split in half to benefit prom and provide meals for those suffering in Haiti.

“It feels pretty good [to participate in something that helps Haiti] because I know they’re in major need and it’ll take awhile for them to get all they need; so, I’m glad to do the little things I can,” senior participant Corry Maguire said.

Social Justice Club also wanted to  help feed Haitian people and is providing tee shirts and prizes for contestants.

“I feel really excited [knowing that we are helping Haiti]. We know the money is going straight to meals for [those in] Haiti because we’re going through an organization called Kids Against Hunger,” Junior Class vice president Samantha Marozzi said.

On the evening of the event, 20 males will compete to become Boone’s “Big Man on Campus”.

Each contestant needed a minimum 2.0 grade point average followed by a clear discipline record. On the back of each application candidates answered questions regarding character and personality to see “what kind of person they were” Marozzi and Dudley said. They were looking for outgoing males to entertain the audience. Based on their answers, the officers picked the top 20.

“I’ve heard good and bad [feedback], but we’re [only] focusing on the good. [Students] are getting really excited about it],” Dudley said. “This is the first time we’ve done this so we can only hope for the best.”

Each contestant will participate and be judged in three portions: interview, talent and swimsuit.

“[I’m looking forward to] my talent the most [but it’s also what I’m most nervous about] because I’m not that good of a dancer but I’m going to overcome my fear,” Maguire said. “I’m going to try my best.”
