With the clock winding down Quarterback Bailey Florin, freshman, looked down the field. No one was in her sight. She rushed past the Oak Ridge defenders, jumped towards the end zone and scored her first touchdown.
The varsity girls flag football team won 35-13. Florin rushed for one touchdown and then threw for another. She was 26-of-31 for 255 yards.
Three days later against the Wekiva Mustangs, Florin had four interceptions, one for a touchdown in the 28-0 win.
With momentum the girls looked to continue their undefeated season finishing with a win against Ocoee.
“[My favorite moment of the season was] when we went undefeated. After our last game we were all happy because we were the first team to go undefeated,” Florin said.
Before the District Semifinal against Timber Creek Florin suffered a knee injury. Despite the pain Florin helped lead her team to victory, 7-6. In the next game verses Dr. Phillips the girls lost 14-0 making their final record 15-1.
Florin finished the season with over 2,000 passing yards. Coach Ken Hensley felt she had great leadership for someone who was so young. She was also honored by the Orlando Sentinel as an Athlete of the Week.
“I felt good [being recognized by the Orlando Sentinel] the work that I did paid off,” Florin said.
