On a quaint corner in Maitland, the Enzian Theater sits in a charming state of contentment.  The theater has developed a clearly defined niche, fostering indie films and cult classics in its oak shaded haven.

After strolling beneath the moss-covered giants, a warm, welcoming façade greets filmgoers as they enter the one screen theater.  Tickets for students are $8, lower than that of Regal Winter Park down the road or the downtown Plaza, but what makes the theater so unique is the theater itself.  Rather than stadium seating dominating the large area, four levels of tables, chairs and couches are provided for patrons.  The comfortable seats allow for a relaxed experience.

However, before the movie begins, waiters and waitresses make their way through the seating, allowing the audience to order a movie classic like popcorn or an item off the full menu like the pulled pork sandwich or a 12’ pizza.  The service is pleasant and charming, perfectly reflecting the atmosphere of the theater. The food is brought out in a timely manner and is in the hands of the customer after the movie begins, causing an unfortunate interruption. Ample time is given before the check is given, however, an improvement might be to pay when the food or drinks are ordered to prevent the inevitable interruption during the movie.  The prices of the items is that of a typical chain restaurant with entrees ranging from $8-$14 and appetisizers from $4-$8.  Desserts are also offered with three items available for purchase ranging from $4 to $6 .50.

The main attraction of the theater, though, is still the films.  The theater features movies that don’t go to wide release, or show them before they do hit wide release.  Such movies include Rabbit Hole, Blue Valentine and documentaries like Marwencol and Even The Rain.  Cult classics like Enter the Dragon also frequent the theater.  The limitations of one screen affect the amount of showtimes the theater can offer, only allowing two or three a day.

The whole experience is an enjoyable one, defined by the sophistication of the films’ and the pleasant hospitality of the service.  Take a visit to the quaint corner in that quaint town and one will leave happy one visited the oak lined indie theater.
