With the Chasing Gold season coming to an end, it’s time to announce the glamorous (and in this case not so glamorous) sports superlatives.
BIGGEST FLOP: The infamous title of biggest flop is awarded to The Los Angeles Angels for spending over $240 million for a slugger that hasn’t been, well slugging. First baseman Albert Pujols is currently hitting a .214 batting average and only has three homeruns. Last season he hit .299 with 37 HR. He might as well put away the bat and learn how to pitch because his average is downright pitiful.
BIGGEST SHOCKER: This award goes to Atlanta Brave third baseman Chipper Jones. The old man is 40-years-old and to the shock of sports analyst, is batting a .306 with five homeruns and 24 runs batted in. Coming off of a disappointing season, Jones is proving this season that age is just a number.
MOST EMBARRASSED: The Chicago Bulls are sticking their head in the dirt after an embarrassing first round loss to the Philadelphia 76ers due to one contributing factor, no Derek Rose. When a team falls short because the star player is absent, it makes them look bad. Basketball isn’t a one-man game, it requires a team to go distance and the team that embraces this will win the playoffs, the Bulls didn’t embrace this.
DUMBEST DECISION: By far the dumbest thing ever done this year occurred in the National Football League draft. The Washington Redskins gave away their first round draft picks in 2013 and 2014, their second round draft pick in 2012, and their number six overall pick in 2012. A choice made to help a crippled quarterback unit might just cripple the rest of the team over the next two years.
MOST ANTICIPATED: The 2012 college football season is going to be by far the most interesting thing going on in sports. With top class athletes leaving high schools to step up to the next level, things will get crazy. Not to mention that star players like Andrew Luck Robert Griffin III and Dont’a Hightower have been drafted, it’s time to see who will step up to replace these key players.
MOST VALUABLE: No doubt this is the most prestigious title awarded to the candidates, but there can be only one winner of the title. That winner is former Stanford QB and newly enlisted Colt, Andrew Luck. Luck was the first pick of the draft and is meant to replace Peyton Manning who they dropped earlier. In last years season he not only won the Maxwell Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, but also the Walter Camp Player of the Year Award. This along with his 9430 college career passing yards puts him ahead of the competition
