Saturday, Oct. 19, The Sound of the Braves placed second overall at the University Classic. They also placed best overall general effects, guard and percussion. Ten schools competed at the University Classic. First place went to Winter Park High School and third to West Orange High School.

“[We celebrate] at the end of the season. But [after competitions] we say ‘Good job, but you need to do more,” Sound of the Braves director Joshua Jackson said.

After the University Classic, the band has qualified for the Florida Marching Band Coalition State Championship. Bands will compete to see what band is the best overall in Florida.

“State’s a big deal, but I want to have fun to keep the momentum that we’ve had,” low reed section leader Victoria Stevenson, senior, said.

Next for Sound of the Braves is Music Performance Assessment at the Citrus Bowl on Nov. 2.

“[MPA] is amazing. [Marching] in the Citrus Bowl with people watching you and not the football team is amazing. It gives me butterflies,” Stevenson said.
