iphone6Yesterday, Apple introduced the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.  While none of us here at hilights have one, yet, to actually review, here are some new features we find exciting:

The new iPhones are a big and exciting step up from the current 5S model. New iPhone 6’s measure 4.7 inches and the iPhone 6 Plus measures 5.5 inches, up from only 4 inches on the 5s. To help users with the larger size, the power button is now located on the side instead of on top.

Apple’s new lineup is the thinnest set of iPhones to date. At 6.9 mm for the iPhone 6 and 7.1 mm for the iPhone 6 Plus.  The new phones are also thinner than the 5s which measures 7.6 mm.

The new screens are also considerably better. iPhone 6’s have 326 pixels per inch,  the same as 5s, but the iPhone 6 Plus has 401 pixels per inch. A larger phone and more high tech screen should allow for slightly better battery capacity. The iPhone 6 should last 11 hours of continuous use and the 6 Plus should last 14 hours, up from 10 hours in the 5s.

New iPhones weren’t the only thing unveiled today. Apple Pay is Apple’s new, easy to use, payment system that allows a customer to pay for products through their phone. Using a technology called near-field communications, or NFC, iPhone users will be able to make purchases through terminals at a store. Apple has major credit card companies like Mastercard, Visa and American-Express on board with the online wallet, so many people will be able to use it when it comes out.

A major selling point of Apple Pay is its security. The credit card number Apple Pay uses isn’t stored on the phone, and a dynamic security code is created at each transaction making identity theft very difficult. Touch ID and Secure Element chip help make it even more secure. Apple Pay will be available to users in October via a software update.

Products announced at Apple’s keynote event are exciting for Apple users. Apple Pay has the potential to revolutionize the way we purchase items, if Apple can prove it is safe and secure. With the new iPhones, continue Apples trend of knowing what the customer wants, and executing it even better than the customer imagined. Even though the new products aren’t out yet we at Hilights want to be the first ones to get them.
