After releasing four CDs, Selena Gomez decided to make her fifth CD, For You, composed of her greatest hits. The CD also contains two new singles: “The Heart Wants What It Wants”
and “Do It” and a cover of the legendary Mexican-American singer, Selena’s, “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.“
Her most popular songs are featured on this CD, such as “Come & Get It,” “Love You Like A Love Song,” “Slow Down,” “Who Says” and her first single “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know.” Some of her other greatest hits are remixed on this album, like “Naturally,” “A Year Without Rain” and “Forget Forever.” She also sings a Spanish cover of “More,” a song from her first CD, Kiss & Tell. These song selections highlight Gomez’s musical career and demonstrate her artistic growth.
Her latest single, “The Heart Wants What It Wants,” released on Nov. 6, and was an instant success debuting amongst the top 10 songs on the iTunes Charts. Unlike many of her other songs, “The Heart Wants What It Wants” actually has depth and meaning behind it. The lyrics are sincere, however, they lack catchiness. Gomez wrote the song about a year ago while she was still overcoming the breakup with her first love, Justin Bieber.
She has published songs about Bieber in the past; however, this is the most heartfelt of them all. She explains how difficult the breakup was by singing “I’m hoping that after this fever I’ll survive” and “I’m praying that I’m gonna make it out alive.” While this may seem melodramatic, it explains how painful the breakup was for her.
The couple broke up and got back together several times before their separation was official. The lyrics “You got me scattered in pieces, shining like stars and screaming” illustrates Gomez’s bittersweet feelings toward this time in their relationship.
Gomez also released an emotional music video on Nov. 6 for her newest single. The beginning of the music video contains a voice over of her crying and saying: “When I was on stage and I was thinking of… I felt like I know him though, and I know that I know his heart, and I know what he wouldn’t do to hurt me. But I didn’t realize that I’m feeling so confident and feeling so great about myself and then it can just be completely shattered by one thing. By something so stupid. But then you make me feel crazy, you make me feel like it’s my fault. I was in pain.”
The release of such a personal song and music video shows how she has artistically matured.
The rest of the album will release on Nov. 24 for $10.99.
