Full Sail University unveiled a new educational facility Monday, Dec. 7, that provides educational opportunities to students in grades 1 through 12. This specially designed facility provides an environment for students to explore, create and innovate through storytelling, technology and art.

“Our program provides a glimpse into the world of professional media production and encourages and exposes the learner to the right use of technology at an early age. Our curriculum is project-based and centered on the learner’s interests whether it’s filmmaking, gaming, robotics or music,” Luis Garcia, Full Sail University’s Vice-President of Online Education, said.

The Full Sail Lab space, an open learning environment, that provides all of the technology necessary for students to create their projects. There are various important parts to the Full Sail Labs facility. The open lab space provides a work space students to work, a theater for parents, siblings or friends to see students’ final projects, and the “Parent Launch” space gives parents and siblings a place to wait while students are in class. The Parent Launch provides a comfortable space with WiFi, a computer, iPads and snacks so parents can relax and siblings can do homework or just hang out.

Programs for high school students currently include Live Beats, a 12 week program focusing on music production, using Live platform including the browser, sessions, arrangement and navigation toolsets, mixing techniques and learn critical components of production, recording and editing their own music. Game Design, a 12 week program that teaches the major components of great game design, how to develop a narrative for the game and make coding decisions for gameplay mechanics. They also learn to create a game environment by sculpting and painting.

Students do not to bring anything with them to the classes since Full Sail Labs provides everything needed.

“[The instructors] are experienced teachers with a passion for teaching ways to leverage imagination and maximize creative potential,” Garcia said.

There are future classes being developed that include the areas of film and robotics, as well as  gaming and music production expansions.
