To help the Kemosabe Kloset fill the pantry before the holidays, the Freshman Class Council wants fourth period classes to Stock the Kloset. This food drive aims to collect non-perishable items specifically for students on campus.
“I think it is great because it is positively affecting students on our campus,” Freshman Class sponsor Jamie Bortner said.
While the WESH-2 Share your Christmas canned food drive benefits the Second Harvest Food Bank, Stock the Kloset collects food for day-to-day meals.
“I think that the food drives are really helpful for those in need,” junior Phoebe Mohan said. “I feel that students will feel really grateful and appreciate other students coming together to give them some extra food.”
Items especially needed include: breakfast cereal, breakfast bars, peanut butter and jelly, canned spaghetti and ravioli, boxes of cornbread mix and macaroni and cheese.
“We want to have enough food in the Kloset so that any student that needs food over the holidays or days that we are not in school has it,” Bortner said.
If students skipped a meal or need food for outside of school they are welcome to go to the Kemosabe Kloset at any time and get what they need.
“It is okay to ask for help if you need it,” Mohan said. “Donating food makes me feel good about myself because I know I’m helping others.”
Donate any non-perishable food items to fourth period teachers to help stock the Kemosabe Kloset with food for the upcoming holidays. On Nov. 18, the class that donated the most items wins a Jeremiah’s Frozen Ice party. Current leaders: Kelly Morales, first place; Robin Brillante, second place; and Jamie Bortner, third place.
