With performances ranging from singing and dancing to comedy skits, the 32nd annual Brave Aid provides a forum for students to display their talents and raising money for charity.
“I think Brave Aid is an awesome method for students to show their talents. There are many events at Boone but this is a way to express individuality. Brave Aid offers an opportunity to showcase talent to the entire school,” Junior John Bramuchi, Swamp Donkey drummer said.
SGA hopes to raise $4,000 for LoveyLoaves. The non-profit devotes time, effort and resources towards rescuing, fostering and adopting dogs with special needs. The local organization, operated by Ward and Cheri Wells along with a team of foster homes and volunteers, hopes to open a LoveyLoaves Sanctuary. The local charity also sponsors Healing Hearts, a community outreach program that pays for heart worm medicine for adoptable dogs at the local Orange County Animal Services. LoveyLoaves accepts donations for this program.
“I think [Brave Aid] shows that Boone is good at giving back to the community through charity and students can come together as one,” Student Body historian Ellyse Wahl said.
In past years, Brave Aid’s charity choices ranged from Honor Flight to Water is Life, helping charities locally, nationally and globally. The collaboration between BARC and SGA influenced choosing LoveyLoaves, which differs from past charities.
“The fact that we have done this for 32 years, it embraces our traditions. We enjoy giving back to the community and this year with BARC we are trying to help tie two groups together and help by giving back to the community,” teacher sponsor Cassandra Stilwell said.
