With a 5-5 record, the girls varsity soccer team started the game against Edgewater hoping for more than just a win.
The ticket, concession and a portion of the advertisement sales for this rival game went to breast cancer research.
“[We wanted to donate the money] because breast cancer is very prominent in today’s society and it’s important to find a cure. We are losing people everyday. It is important to support a foundation that will help others and find a cure,” junior Brandi Recker said.
The game started quickly with a goal by sophomore Kayla Combs, giving the Braves a 1-0 lead. Then in the second half, the girls scored two more goals. Senior goalie Logan Graves held off the Eagles and had a shut out game.
With a final score of 3-0, the girls earned the mini breast cancer barrel, a tradition started in 2009.
“It was good. We screamed. We were really happy for our senior. After our loss to Edgewater in football we wanted to have at least one barrel at Boone. It felt good,” Recker said.
