The National Football Conference has its fair share of Super Bowl winners, like the Chicago Bears in 1986, the St. Louis Rams in 2000, and most recently the Green Bay Packers in 2011. Recently though, a new team has arisen from the ashes of the NFL Lockout, the Detroit Lions.
The Lions are storming through their schedule knocking out power teams like the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys. For the first time in over 30 years, the Lions are going 4-0.
This sudden turn-around raises the question, how does a team go from being a punching bag who loss all 16 games in 2008, to become a possible Super Bowl contender? The key is, they are tired of losing, quarterback Matthew Stafford wants a Super Bowl Ring and his recent performance throwing two touchdown passes against the Cowboys shows his dedication.
The biggest highlight of their season so far was their game against the Dallas Cowboys. At the end of the first half, the Lions were down 3-17. Just five minutes into the third quarter, a fire was lit in the heart of the Lions. Bobby Carpenter picked off a pass thrown by Tony Romo and ran it back 35 yards for a touchdown making it 10-27. The Lions would go on to win that game 34-30 upsetting Dallas.
Their skill is going to be put to the test when next Monday they take on 2011 NFC North Division champs, the Chicago Bears.
However, the Lions have one thing the Bears do not, drive. The Lions are tired of finishing at the bottom and they have their eyes on the Super Bowl Title. They are practically drooling over the thought of it. There’s no doubt if they keep playing like they are now, they will be getting fit for their rings soon.
