To fill the void of teachers retiring, moving to another state, or getting promotions, there have been some changes on campus.  Meet five new* members to the faculty.

 Angela Atehortua, guidance counselor (Ha-McL)

1.How long have you been a guidance counselor?

This is my first year, but I interned at Timber Creek last year.

2. What do you love most about Boone so far?

So far, the staff is amazing. [They are] very supportive and inviting.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

Getting to know as many students as I can.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a youth pastor at my church.

5. What is something you want students to know about you?

I always just want to help them. If I ever want to see them, it’s because it’s in their best interest. I just want to see them succeed. I also prefer to go by Ms. A.

 

lydersSara Lyders, dean (*not actually new to campus, just a new role)

1. What was your occupation before becoming a dean?

Before this, I was the ESE staffing specialist.

2. What do you love most about Boone?

I’ve been at Boone since 2003 [and] I just love all the tradition.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

I am most looking forward to continuing to work with kids and families.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I was a UCF dancer in college.

5. What is something you want students to know about you?

My door is always open and I’m always here to support students.

 

millerJacquelin Miller, English teacher

1. How long have you been teaching?

I’m a first year teacher and I taught Creative Writing at Olympia before my position here.

2. What do you love most about Boone so far?

I love that I feel at home and comfortable here.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

I’m most looking forward to getting to know all of my students and finishing up my first year teaching. As well as learning about all of the traditions we have here at BHS.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I’m a musician; I play in a rock band.

5. What is something you want students to know about you?

I truly care about them and that it is my priority for them to enjoy their experience here and to receive a good education. I also listen with compassion. *insert smiley face here*

 

haydenMichele Hayden-Binkowsky, guidance counselor (Coo-Guz)

1. For how long have you been a guidance counselor?

This is my first year as a high school counselor. Last year, I taught AVID at Freedom Middle School. I have also been a college retention support counselor at Seminole State College .

2. What do you love most about Boone so far?

I love all the friendly people I have met so far. I have enjoyed every minute working with our staff/ faculty and students. It is a breath of fresh air having such a strong supportive community and students that take pride in their school.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

Graduating my seniors. I am looking forward to witnessing this special event with them.

4. What is something you want students to know about you?

I moved to Florida when I was a freshman in high school and that was a very difficult time for me as a teenager. I feel like I can connect well to all the newly enrolled students.

5. What was your most memorable moment from being a guidance counselor?

My most memorable moment, so far, has been witnessing some of the growth my students have shown me.

 

mwanzaSesheta Mwanza, English teacher

1. For how long have you been teaching?

First year.

2. What’s your most memorable moment teaching?

Anytime we have good discussions. Seeing my students connect with Shakespeare has been exciting.

3. What are you most looking forward to this year?

Seeing how much my students progress by the end of the year.

4. What is something most people don’t know about you?

I like heavy metal.

5. What is something you want students to know about you?

I’m really invested in them doing well in the future. I’ll make sure they have the skills they need for any future career. I’m there for them if they need advice too. I really care about them.
