Leadership: The 7 Habits of Happy Kids

In Mrs. Storch’s class students are learning valuable leadership skills from Sean Covey’s book The 7 Habits of Happy Kids.

Habit 1: Be Proactive – Even though you can’t control what happens to you, you can control how you react, and what you do about it.

Habit 2: Begin With The End In Mind – We have to know where we’re going before we can find the best plan to get there.  If we don’t know where we want to go, we might end up somewhere we don’t want to be.

Habit 3: Put First Things First – If we don’t do what is most important first, we might forget, get tired or not be able to give it our best.

Habit 4: Think Win-Win – Everyone is different, but we are all special.  We should be allowed to feel happy.  If what makes us happy makes someone else sad, that is a problem and we have to work together to find a solution.

Habit 5: Seek First To Understand, Then Be Understood –   You must listen before you talk. You have two ears and one mouth to remind you that listening is sometimes more important than talking. We know it is best to use our words to solve our problems, but if no one is listening to the words, then the problems cannot be solved.

Habit 6: Synergizing – Working together so that everyone is better. Everyone is different and everyone brings different thoughts and ideas to a group.  If we work together, we can put the best of all of us together to make us better.

Habit 7: Sharpening the Saw – Taking care of our bodies and minds to keep us healthy and be the best we can be.  We have to make healthy choices and help our minds get smarter.
