40 Book Reading Challenge

Students are required to read 30 minutes every night. Instead of a reading log, the students will complete the 40 Book Reading Challenge.

The 40 Book Reading Challenge is required for all students.  The goal is to read 40 books in a variety of genres by the end of the year. Details are in this letter  sent home to you at the beginning of the year: 40 Book Challenge Packet – 2018-2019

Each nine weeks the students should set a goal of reading 10 books.   They are to track their books using this sheet:  40 book challenge Tally Sheet for Students_2018-2019

After reading each book, students must write a response to reading and put it in the back of their reading folder. It should be a paragraph or two long. They do not need to write a letter.  The letters in their folder is to show examples of different types of responses.   They must write the book title, author, number of pages  and date in the tracking sheet.  Then they turn in the folder to me.   If they have a book that is more than 300 pages, it counts as two books, and they must submit two responses: 1. a written response when they are halfway and 2. and another when they finish it.

The written response should use one of the prompts from the attached response stems. Students have examples of more in their folder.   Writing your Reading Response Stems
