Gangly frames and happy go lucky demeanors are the characteristics that perfectly define Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa.
Not only do their personas and physical characteristics make these two infamous rappers a perfect match, but their laid back approach to music also allowed them to collaborate perfectly on their new album Mac and Devin Go to High School. Snoop and Wiz send a message of carefree living to their listeners. The album is an obvious attempt to capture the attention of younger audiences.
This album is inspired by and based off the movie Mac and Devin Go to High School (the release date is still to be set) where two young gentlemen struggle with the temptations and hardships of high school life, Wiz Khalifa plays the smart, driven student who contrasts Snoop Dogg’s character: the irresponsible, risk-taking student.
The single “Young Wild and Free” captures the momentum of being young. Bruno Mars is also featured in this song, giving it an energetic feel. The long melody contrasting with the chorus of Mar’s, Snoop Dogg’s and Wiz Khalifa’s voices gives the song a feel of unity. This song encompasses the album and is currently number 40 on iTunes Hip-Hop music charts.
Each song on the album embraces an aspect that relates to high school life. In “It Could Be Easy” both rappers express how easy it is getting into a relationship but how difficult it is keep a functional and balanced relationship. “World Class” tells the story of a young man struggling to keep his life together, Wiz Khalifa raps about establishing goals and struggling to meet those goals.
The album radiates Wiz Khalifa’s and Snoop Dogg’s veteran talent. There is a cohesive feel to the album, despite the contrasting themes behind each song. The album can be found at Target for $9.98.
