In the district final game, the Winter Park Wildcats defeated the girls soccer team.

For 25 minutes, girls from both teams sprinted up and down the field with very little goal action. A close save by goalie junior Dyana Herrera prompted a first time out of the night with 20 minutes left in the first half.

As the first half came to a close, junior Rachel Bridewell went for a goal, but the Winter Park goalie blocked the kick. The first half ended  0-0.

Within the first 10 minutes of the second half, sophomore Emily Sterns attempted a goal with a header and senior Alexandra Clayton also had a close kick into the goal, but barely missed. With 28 minutes left in the game, the Wildcats made their first goal of the night.

Winter Park received a free kick for a penalty on the Lady Braves. They did not make the goal. The Wildcats came out from a second timeout of the game with a goal, bringing the score to 0-2.

With 14 minutes left of the clock, junior Rachel Bridewell subbed in. Two minutes later, senior Heidi Hill shot for the goal, but Winter Park’s goalie made the block. With 11:36 left on the clock, Winter Park made another goal. With 3:30 to go, senior Kayla Combs went for a free kick, coming out without a goal.

The Braves could not pull out the win against the Wildcats, with a final score of 0-3.

The girls will face the District 3 champions Jan. 24. The opponent, place and time to be announced.
