Unlike other modeling competition series, Oxygen’s The Face gives viewers a fresh concept on the modeling competition experience.
Photographer Nigel Barker (America’s Next Top Model) serves as the host, alongside three supermodel coaches: Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha. The winner will become the face of ULTA Beauty.
Campbell began modeling at 15 and was the first African American model on the cover of French Vogue. Kurkova gained recognition for being a Victoria’s Secret Angel and has been in the modeling industry for 13 years. Rocha, known for her theatrical and expressive modeling, has been modeling for 10 years.
Twelve female contestants entered the loft, which is their home for the duration of the competition. The girls were preselected by each coach into teams of four.
To prepare the contestants for real life modeling scenarios, such as photo shoots and commercials, the contestants receive assignments.
The first task the girls are given is test shoots. Test shoots usually help a model build her portfolio to book gigs. The girls went head-to-head in a “Who wore it better?” competition, with one of Campbell’s contestants winning.
Photographer Patrick DeMarchelier shot the girls photos this week. Each team took photos for the opportunity to have one in W Magazine. The coaches are at the photo shoot to mentor the contestants. The two losing coaches nominate one of their girls to leave. The winning coach then picks which model to eliminate.
With a mixture of modeling and drama, the audience is captured. The Face looks like a promising model competition with potential to be a hit.
