19 earn spot on All-County Band

Competing against each other and students from all of Orange County, band members auditioned for a spot in the Orange County All-County Band.

Of the students who auditioned from Boone, 19 successfully made it into this prestigious band. This marked a large increase from last year’s seven students who made it.

“It establishes we’re a strong music program,” band director Joshua Jackson said. “[It] allows students to make music with top musicians in the county.”

On Monday, Nov. 11, students were tested on four of their major scales, their chromatic scale, a prepared piece and sight reading.

“I was relieved because I had tried multiple times had but not gotten in,” senior James Boyle, who made chair 14 out of 17 in the trumpet section, said. “[I wanted] to show I’m better than everyone.”

Among the students that made the All-County Band are Savannah McGuigan and Chelsea Chan, who also made The Florida All-State Band.

The All-County members from the Reservation include:
