What do you do at Boone? I work with multiple teachers, wherever assigned to, for students that need extra help, mostly seniors.
What were your first impressions of Boone? I like it, all the kids and teachers have been nice, it is a nice first impression.
How long have you been involved in the school system?First year working for OCPS, worked in St. James and another charter school. I have been a teacher 16 years.
What is your favorite memory from high school? I attended Benjamin Franklin High School in New Orleans, Louisiana. My teacher was Marion J, Catalano. He spent the first day of class each year getting to know each student and assigning nicknames. Some of us still go by those nicknames to this day! He made biology class fun, and he made you want to work hard even if science wasn’t your favorite.
What activities are you interested in outside of school? Two children, football games, taking care of dogs, two labs and one miniature dachshund.
Describe an average school day for you. I get here usually around 6:50 a.m., get my bearings, work 1-4 #periods, eat lunch, work 5-6 #periods, than have 7th off to manage the chaos.
What are some goals you have for this school year? To get my office organized and to be as helpful as I can be to the students.
What made you want to become involved with teaching high school students? I was not working for a few years and when my son entered high school, I subbed for St, James and realized I liked working with high school students because they are easier to speak to while instructing.
What were you doing before you came to Boone? Last three years I wasn’t working. I was helping my husband with his business, and [doing] typical mom things.
Describe a couple of your strengths and weaknesses. Well a strength would be I want all the students to succeed and I am good with students. A weakness would be organization.
How do you feel about online learning/going digital? I love it. I think it is great because students are digital and more tech savvy. It works better with our generation and eliminates the amount of textbooks. It brings more to whatever we are used to doing.
