The boys golf team placed second in the first annual College Park Cup at Dubsdread Golf Course on Oct. 9.

Boone’s second place score was 330 while Bishop Moore landed at first place with 281. Edgewater rounded out the field in third place with a total of 349.

The boys were able to beat Edgewater without the help of their leading golfer, Nicholas Bessire. Bessire was out of town to play in a golf tournament in Fleming Islands, Florida.

Sophomore Colin Smith shot a personal best of 81, leading the team to a second place finish.

Colin Smith, Justin Davis and Colton McCandless were the team’s top scorers of the night with 81, 82 and 82, respectively.

This is the final week of the regular golf season, which means the boys might feel pressure since their scores may or may not qualify them for the district team. Only the top five scoring averages get to play on the Boone boys golf district team.

Districts will be held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Rio Pinar Country Club.
