The Lady Braves Basketball team defeated Lake Minneola 65-43 in an away game Jan. 24.

The first quarter started out strong with senior Madeline Morales scoring a three-pointer in the first minute. The Lady Braves quickly set up a strong offense and advanced, ending the first quarter with an eight point advantage.

The second quarter started rocky as the Lady Braves tried to shoot and lost the ball to the Hawks multiple times. Lake Minneola countered the Braves’ strong offense with equally strong defense and ended up catching up with the Braves by half time at a 25-25 tie.

Senior Leilani Guion began the second half with a basket. The third quarter proved more successful than the second, as the Braves created some swift redirects and baskets on their side and ended the quarter with a 16 point lead.

The fourth quarter secured a win for the Lady Braves, as they stepped up their defense and increased their lead in points. Seniors Aubrey Phillips, Guion and Morales, as well as junior Dream Eason, proved key players thanks to numerous baskets throughout the game. Guion snagged 16 points and 11 rebounds.

The team’s next game is against Windermere Jan. 30.
