Holding onto their undefeated title, the girls water polo team is now 4-0 after beating the University Cougars, 17-3, on Feb. 26.

Junior Eleanor Clark started the game in the team’s favor scoring two goals in the first five minutes. She made four goals in the first quarter. Senior Nicole Clayton added another two and Mackenzie Mock squeezed one more goal in before the first quarter ended, 7-1.

Junior Julia Hester started the second quarter with a quick shot scoring, an assist from Clark. Hester’s first goal of the game pumped her up to score another goal on a counter attack after a close attempt at a goal by University. The girls ended the second quarter 10-1.

Staring the third quarter, Coach Rosalie Creighton subbed goalie Jenna Layton for sophomore Robin Houstoun. A few minutes into the third quarter, the referee called for an unexpected time out sending both teams to their benches. Later explaining the time, the referee caught a University player who was ejected the maximum amount of times and was still playing. This caused the referees to start the second quarter over and take away one goal from Boone, ending the second quarter 12-1.

Third quarter started with half of the starters out, giving everyone a chance to play. Houstoun, still in goal, made seven saves but allowed two goals. Mock scored a goal from 10 yards out before a counter attack by University, ending the third quarter 17-3.

By the fourth quarter, which would really be the fifth quarter, no one scored. There was a close attempt by University, but Layton made the save. The game ended 17-3.

The team will play at the Wildcat Invitational on March 1 and 2 at the YMCA Aquatic Center.
