On Nov. 19, in the Wayne Rickman Gymnasium, the girls basketball team fell short to Colonial, 54-76, bringing the team’s record to 1-1 for the season.
The two teams battled point for point in the first quarter. Colonial scored the first two-point shot of the night, and the home team tied the score with their own two-pointer within minutes. Senior Kendall Byerly, junior Cassandra Ketchum, junior Carlyn Attaway, sophomore Amanda Oliver and freshman Angeni Worley all scored to help the team finish the first quarter with a three-point lead, 18-15.
The teams retuned explosively for the second quarter, and both scored within the first minute. Worley quickly scored again, prompting Colonial to call a timeout with the score at 20-17. However, after their return, the Grenadiers quickly began amassing points, beginning with a 3-pointer that allowed them to crawl ahead of the home team, 23-24. Despite the initial close score, Colonial pulled ahead decisively, and the second quarter ended 30-38.
Colonial maintained its lead throughout the third quarter, though Ketchum and sophomore Sadie Desroches both contributed points to the scoreboard. Ketchum scored again at the start of the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 47-59. However, Colonial amassed a 19-point lead with less than five minutes left in the game. Ultimately, the home team succumbed to its opponent, 54-76.
The Lady Braves will return to action when they oppose Lake Howell on Nov. 21 in the Wayne Rickman Gymnasium at 7 p.m.
