Long lines are the first thing one notices when pulling into the parking lot of this quaint Winter Park restaurant. But the disappointment is shortlived when one notices the aroma of the fresh barbeque coming from the smoker.
4 Rivers Smokehouse, located at 2103 West Fairbanks Avenue, offers its customers an assortment of classic southern dishes and traditional barbeque. Sandwiches are reasonably priced, ranging from $6-8, considering they include two large sides. The smokehouse’s specialty is their original barbeque rub that coats all of the meats from the brisket to the smoked turkey; it adds a spice that is tasty and not overwhelming to those who prefer milder foods. For more flavor and spice one can add their original barbeque sauce, which already coats the pulled pork and pulled chicken, to the entrée.
Barbeque is not the only culinary option offered at this dinning treasure, they also have many salad options and a few non-barbequed sandwiches like, chicken salad. The sides themselves can also present a filling dinning option. Costing $1.50 when not included with the meal, one can choose from an assortment of traditional southern delicacies such as: Texas cornbread, coleslaw, fried pickles, French fries, collards, BBQ beans, Southern green beans, and baked cheese grits.
The downside to this tasty restaurant is the often long wait. At dinner and lunchtime and on weekends, there is a line out the door of people waiting to order. Luckily, the line moves quickly, and on busy nights one may receive a complimentary drink as consolation for the inconvenience. Also only outdoor, family style sitting is offered.
The unique taste this restaurant presents is well worth the wait and less than favorable seating arrangements. 4 Rivers is perfect for a cheap, casual night out.
