Tuesday, Feb. 16, the Braves faced off against Dr. Phillips in the Regional Semi-Finals in the Wayne Rickman Gymnasium.
The game began with Dr. Phillips winning the tip off and gaining an early lead, ending the first quarter 7-13. The Panthers’ strong defense gave the Braves little room to score, however, 3-pointers from freshman Jordan Goodson and senior Jose Melendez allowed the Braves to get closer to tying, ending the half at 17-22.
The third quarter was a struggle, with points being scored from both teams. The Panthers’ streak of two baskets and two free throws towards the end of the quarter allowed them to close it out 24-32.
The fourth quarter was an all out battle, as senior Louis Martinez started the quarter with a solid basket, causing a chain reaction of a 3-pointer and two baskets in a row to bring the Braves ahead of the Panthers 33-32.
Two 3-pointers from Melendez and four free throw points from senior Jeremy Bouton along with two more free throw points from sophomore Justin Butler allowed the Braves to walk away with the win, 47-39.
The boys (21-9) will host the Hagerty High School Huskies (21-8), Saturday at 7 p.m. for the Regional Final game.
