Balancing school, extracurricular activities, social time and relaxation time, all while maintaining a 4.0 for four years, sounds like an exhausting task. Senior Claire Collins would agree, but she managed to do it.
“[My motivator was] getting my diploma two minutes before the rest of the senior class, of course,” Collins said. “[I struggled with] getting enough sleep. I took that pretty personally.”
Although she has a sense of humor about her motivation for striving to be at the top of the senior class, she has no problem admitting to the struggle and sacrifice it took to get there.
“I think most students have at least some idea of the effort and sacrifice [getting straight A’s] requires,” Collins said. “[I struggled with] getting enough sleep. I took that pretty personally.”
In addition to making her grades a priority, Collins participated in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, cross country, track and field, soccer and flag football.
Collins’ advice to underclassman is practical and applicable to many incoming underclassmen.
“Take your first years in high school seriously. Things do not magically change or disappear when you are looking to apply to colleges.”
Collins will attend Texas A&M University in the fall, but she has not yet decided what she plans to study.
