A sea of tubular patterns, bell-bottoms and go-go boots will flood the Dover Shores Community Center on Saturday, Aug. 26, as Polyester Paradise returns.

After a year long hiatus, the 1960s and 1970s themed dance is back.

“Polyester Paradise is a good tradition because it’s a great way to start off the school year and have a good time,” junior Edgar Alvarez said.

The Parent Teacher Student Association decided to host the event as a welcome back to school event rather than in the spring, which is when the dance has occurred in past years.

“The biggest obstacle this year is we are having this event so soon, so the logistics have to be taken care of very quickly,” PTSA president Paula Stelmashenko said.

Groovy Guide

Outfits reflect late 1960s and early 1970s style: floral prints, shift dresses and facial hair. Some comb their grandmother’s attic and others find their threads at costume shops and thrift stores. Popular stores include Plato’s ClosetParty City and Goodwill.

For girls

Girls typically dress in bright colors and geometric patterns, complete with go-go boots or platform shoes. Headbands and hoop earrings top off the outfit. Below, one can find examples of far-out looks students wore for previous years and where to find them.
