In 3rd grade we have been working on duple and triple meter and hearing the difference between the two meters. Then we discovered that some songs use both duple and triple meters in patterns (like the samba, flamenco, etc.) so we set out to create our own mixed meter patterns with words that have 2 or 3 syllables. You will notice that I encouraged them to make sure that their words related to each other. Then many of them got creative with the movements that they used for their performance. In the next few posts you will see some really creative groups with their mixed meter patterns!
