NBC debuted its newest prime-time line-up Are You There, Chelsea? The show is based off of comedian Chelsea Handler’s semi-autobiographical book Are You there Vodka? It’s Me, Chelsea. Are You There, Chelsea? airs Wednesday nights at 8:30.

NBC released this show in it’s new attempt to bring in female viewers. It is the third female-directed show to reach the network. It follows Whitney and 2 Broke Girls.

The 30 minute program combines appealing features to accommodate possible fans.  It uses humor and a well cast group to portray the show. It stars Laura Prepon (That 70’s Show) as Chelsea Newman and Chelsea Handler (Chelsea Lately) as Sloane Newman, Chelsea’s sister.

From its jokes about cats to gingers, it uses modern trends to relate with today’s society. Although it sometimes felt like it pushed bad messages down the audiences throat, such as bullying and drinking, it made up for it with a sort of “what Chelsea learned” segment at the end of the episode.

In its pilot episode, Newman receives a DUI, moves in with a roommate totally opposite of her and helps her sister give birth to a baby girl.

Prepon does a fantastic job as a young Chelsea Handler. She is the spitting image of Handler now and it is hard to not picture Handler once looking just like Prepon. Chelsea Handler also does a great job playing her sister Sloane, who has the complete opposite personality of herself.

This show has the potential to become huge and hopefully it lasts long enough to give fans a few seasons of Prepon and Handler delivering comedy in its finest form.
