Fox’s newest film Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is a fun-filled movie for all ages. It combines great animation and storyline with musical numbers that have everyone singing along.
The story is based off of the classic Dr. Seuss tale where the lorax comes to help protect the trees since they cannot speak for themselves. This film, like other Seuss fables brought to the big screen, takes the story to a much deeper level. The addition of a “love story” between Ted (Zac Efron) and Audrey (Taylor Swift) occurs when he secretly promises to get her a live tree, the idea that sparks the whole search for a tree. Once Ted meets the Once-ler (Ed Helms), he is told about the story of why no more trees exist.
This film is a metaphor about corporate America as it discusses the rise of one person’s need over those of the common man. The message is obvious for an older audience, but still remains fun for children.
Another great attribute to the film is its star-studded cast. The film features today’s hottest celebrities including Efron, Swift, Danny Devito (the Lorax) and Betty White (Grammy Nora). The stars even have a decent amount of screen time in the film. Each star has multiple scenes and lines, something that sometimes gets pushed aside when celebrities do voice acting in animated films. A funny scene for Devito is when he chases the Once-ler down the river after the Lorax knocks his bed down the stream towards a waterfall. A sentimental scene between Ted and Audrey occurs when she explains how she wants a real live tree in her backyard and he vows to get her one.
The movie’s animation is phenomenal and really provides intricate detail to bring the Seussian world to life.
The central message of the film relates to preserving the environment and understanding the importance of not overdoing things.
The Lorax is a fantastic movie for both children and adults that uses its combination of musical numbers and animation to provide a central message of helping the environment. Any person who loves a good time and adores Dr. Seuss should see this film.
