Traveling to Colonial, the boys’ varsity volleyball team played the Grenadiers on March 19, winning 3-1.

The first set opened with a kill from senior Robert Irwin.  The boys kept a steady run over the Grenadiers, winning the first set 25-15.

Advancing into the second set, the boys’ were tied 10-10, but closed the game with a score of 25-18.

Colonial got a 7-point run from the beginning of the third set, 1-8, making the boys’ fight the whole game to make a comeback. At 20-24 with Colonial in the lead sophomore Samuel Furukawa stepped back to serve for the team.  Furukawa’s consistency gave the team a 6-point run and brought them back in the game, 25-24.  Points alternated back and fourth between the teams until Colonial finally closed the third set  29-31.

Stepping back on the court, senior Matthew Combs was a driving force in their offense during the fourth set, totaling 27 kills throughout the game.  The boys finished the close fought match, 25-20, with a win over Colonial.

The team now holds a 5-4 record and will play Lyman at Lyman on March 21 at 7 p.m.
