On Wednesday, Jan. 7, the boys basketball team fell short to Oak Ridge High School.

The boys started strong with some easy layups and a nice 3-pointer from sophomore Zachary “Jordan” Morales. They were able to work through Oak Ridge’s strong offensive plays and three 3-point shots during the first half. Quick breakaways and excellent jump shots allowed the boys to stay ahead 29-19 at the end of the half.

The third quarter was an absolute assault from Oak Ridge, breaking through the Brave’s defense, scoring nine times including a 3-pointer. Two baskets from senior Jose Melendez and another great 3-pointer from Morales allowed the Braves to keep it tied up, 43-43, at the end of the third quarter.

Eight fouls on Oak Ridge allowed the Pioneers to take the lead with free throws. The Braves continuously sank baskets, hoping for a comeback, but Oak Ridge remained at least two points ahead the last quarter, allowing them to take the win, 60-64.
