On the evening of March 3, 12 track and field teams gathered at Winter Park High School for the 2015 Freshman/Sophomore Metro Championship.

The girls decimated the competition in the discus throwing event. Freshman Jae Crawford ranked first place punching the disc 101-feet while sophomore Vicktoria Pringle took second place throwing it 97 feet-8 inches.

In the high jump, the girls continued their winning streak with Chloe Conyers tying for second place by leaping 4 feet-8 inches into the sand pit.

Sophomore Makaila Reed came in seventh place in the shot put, sending the shot flying a respectable 30 feet-1 inch.

Individually the girls were able to proudly defeat multiple schools in many events and as a team they worked just as well coming in fourth in the 4×800 meter relay at 11 minutes, 45.12 seconds.

Unlike the Lady Braves, the boys team wasn’t able to overcome the majority of the competition though they still accomplished impressive feats.

Sophomore Brandon McCoy was able to set a personal record by jumping 9 feet in the pole vault, coming in third place.

Angel Borrero stood strong coming in fourth place in the discus event at 96 feet-8 inches. The sophomore continued on in the shot put event, throwing the shot 35 feet-9.5 inches and coming in seventh.

The boys leapt over the competition with sophomore Brent Sturno jumping 17 feet-5 inches in the long jump, coming in 15th, and Xavier Urrutia leapt 36 feet-9.5 inches in the triple jump and came in ninth.

Overall the girls’ team ranked seventh place while the boys’ team ranked ninth.

The next track and field meet is at Lake Brantley on Saturday, March 7, at 8:30 a.m.

  1. By the way you should probably mention the kid who scored 13 points out of the 36.5 points scored for the guys team 🙂
