On March 14, the boys and girls track and field team competed against 16 other high schools at the Brian Jaeger Elite Classic 2015 at Showalter Field.

Dominating his field events, senior Luis Rivera placed first in both boys discus and shot-put with distances of 137 feet-5inches and 47 feet-8inches respectively. Junior Colby Ritten followed closely behind Rivera in discus ending up in fourth place with a distance of 129 feet-8 inches. Ritten placed ninth in shot-put with a distance of 40 feet-9 inches. Junior Christopher Johnson placed ninth in boys discus with a distance of 108 feet-9 inches.

Senior Logan Loomis placed 10th in the boys pole vault at 10 feet-6 inches.

On the track, junior Roy Hoewischer set a personal record in the 100-meter finals at 11.03 seconds placing fourth, while senior James Turner placed ninth with 11.23 seconds.

Turner made a come back in the boys 400-meter finals placing third with a 49.09 seconds.

In the 1600-meter finals, sophomore Spenser Blake placed third with a time of 4:42. In the 3200-meter finals, senior Jared Hines placed fourth with a 10:05, while senior Ryan Harding followed in fifth place with a time of 10:07.

While the boys team placed sixth overall based on 23 events scored, the girls team placed 11th overall based on 20 events scored. The girls team did, however, excel in certain events.

Senior Alexandra King decimated the competition in girls discus throwing it 111 feet-11 inches.

In the girls long jump, sophomore Jewell Gentry-Mickelson placed third with a distance of 16 feet-5 inches.

In girls discus, sophomore Viktoria Pringle placed third with a distance of 107 feet-1 inch while freshman Jae Crawford placed ninth with a distance of 92 feet-8 inches.

Senior Jordyn Whitmer placed eighth in the girls pole vault with a height of 8 feet even.

On the track, sophomore Jewell Gentry-Mickelson placed ninth in the girls 100-meter finals at 13.02 seconds, while junior Jordan Crawford placed fifth in the 400-meter finals with a time of one minute. Junior Alexandra Sublette placed ninth in the girls 3200-meter finals with a time of 13:16.

The next track and field meet, the Metro Conference Championships, is on March 18, at 4:30 p.m. at Showalter Field.
