On Friday, April 4, the Lady Braves lacrosse (9-6) team fell to Lake Mary (10-5) after a equal game on both teams part overall.

Five minutes after senior Dora Muratovic won the draw, she made an offensive run down the center off the field leading to the first goal of the game.

But Lake Mary didn’t waste any time and put in a goal of their own, which tied up the score 1-1. The Lady Braves got fired up after the Ram’s goal and junior Kaitlyn Driskell swiftly whipped in her first goal of the night.

After Driskell’s goal, Lake Mary roughed her up a bit leaving Driskell sprawled out on the field and the ball in the Ram’s hands. Lake Mary dove in again and made a goal, leaving the score tied at 2-2 just before the water break.

Back from the water break and stronger than ever, senior Rachel Rector left the goal to follow a player, but sprinted back just in time to keep the ball out of the net. The Lady Braves defense let down their guard and Lake Mary took advantage and scored two back-to-back goals.

Without delay, the Rams shoved another goal in the net, making that three in a row. The score going into halftime was 2-5, with Lake Mary in the lead. As halftime neared, parents gathered to escort their seniors down the field for Senior Night.

The beginning of the second half brought about a new intensity of play, with sophomore Madalyn Benton leading the team to their third point on the scoreboard, and shortly after their fourth.

Following a mad scramble for a ground ball, senior Madison Barnett grabbed the ball and thrusted in her first goal of the game, tying up the score at 5-5. Lake Mary panicked and started to play dirty, leading to a yellow card.

Lake Mary wasn’t phased and put in another goal, making the score 5-6. With two minutes left in the game, the Lady Braves tried to block out the Rams, but they slip in two fast goals.

The Lady Braves didn’t go down without a fight. Muratovic whipped in her second goal, bringing the final score of the game to 6-8.

The Lady Braves’ next lacrosse game is April 11 at 7:30 p.m at Timber Creek High School (13-2).
