On Wednesday night, March 2, the softball team (8-1) took on Freedom High School (4-4) at home.

In the top of the first inning, Freedom made their only run of the game. When it was the Braves time to bat, junior Kelsi Smith hit a line drive, bringing in two runs. Sophomore Caroline Suggs hit a pop fly, bringing in another run and then stole home. The score advanced to 4-1.

Senior Meghan Mansfield stopped Freedom from scoring by making all three outs at first base in the top of the second inning.

At the bottom of the second inning, the Braves’ offense was alive. Sophomore Lara Dusing stole home when Freedom’s catcher made an error, making the score 5-1. Juniors Adriana Garip and Rachel Lopez drove the ball to the outfield, bringing in three runs. Braves were in the lead, 8-1.

Freedom did not manage to make any runs in the top of the third inning.

Sophomore Rachael Carroll hit the ball deep to centerfield, bringing in a run, making the score 9-1.

In the top of the fifth inning, a double play occurred giving Freedom two outs.

Sophomore Kathleen Cairns hit a double in the bottom of the fifth. Carrol hit a ground ball, bringing in Cairns, making the score 10-1. Lopez brought two runners in, ending the game 12-1 due to a run rule.

The Lady Braves are 9-1 for the season. Their next game is at home, March 4, against Oak Ridge (0-7) at 4 p.m.
