On April 26, the boys volleyball team (13-10) defeated the Winter Park Wildcats (8-9) in four sets in the district semi-final.
In the first set, both teams started off strong trading points. Back-to-back kills from junior Daniel Hermida gave the team an edge putting them up 23-21. A spike from senior Jason Hock forced the Wildcats to use their first timeout. Hock would come out of the timeout and end the set 25-21 giving the boys a 1-0 lead in the match.
In the second set, the Wildcats improved the level of intensity giving the Braves a tough set. Senior Jon Bartelt tied the game at 5-5 with a spike. Points would continue to be exchanged and junior Karl Schaefer would improve the score to 23-23. Unable to finish the set at 25, seniors Cameron Sexton and Jason Hock finished the set 30-28 with a kill and an ace.
The third set would turn in favor of the Wildcats, giving them the upper hand and finishing with an 11-25 score.
In the fourth set, the boys started off slow giving the Wildcats three unanswered points. A double block from Sexton and Hermida gave the team a 7-6 lead. Answering back with three more points, Hermida extended the lead to 10-6 forcing Winter Park to use a timeout. Expanding the lead with his hot hand, Hermida put the team up 20-18 and finish the set with a kill. The boys won the fourth set 25-18.
The boys will take on Timber Creek tomorrow at 7 p.m. at Winter Park.
