Tuesday night, the Lady Braves volleyball team (3-0) beat Lake Nona (1-1) in a highly contentious, five-set match. The first set resulted in a crushing victory, 25-16, wherein the Lady Braves hit the ground running with a 9-0 lead.

Consequently, the Lions played harder in the second set and beat the Braves, 18-25. This was despite the best efforts of junior Julia Alves, who raked in several points in an attempt to even the score.

By the third set, the pressure was on. Scores on both sides were neck and neck, jumping from 18-19 to 24-23. But thanks to senior Sydney Ritten’s devastating kills, the stress of the set did not phase the Lady Braves, who beat Lake Nona, 25-23.

Subsequently, the fourth set was riddled with time-outs and close calls made by the referee. After Lake Nona scored their second win in the fourth set, 22-24, the Lady Braves gathered for one final strategy session and ended the fifth set, 15-13.

In the end, the Lady Braves beat the Lions in a tense 3-2 match. The team will face another away game at Olympia High School (2-0), Sept. 14 at 7 p.m.
