In a neck and neck game against the Dr. Phillips Panthers on Wednesday, Nov. 30, on the Reservation, the Lady Braves basketball team lost 38-39.

Junior Brittney Smith started the game with a basket. However, the Panthers dominated the first quarter with consistent baskets and assists. The quarter ended 8-14.

In the second quarter, senior Angeni Worley blocked the Panthers’ shots and scored, bringing up the score 16-21. The Lady Braves focused on defense throughout the quarter, but fell short with an ending score of 19-24.

Junior Cassady Quintana rebounded the ball in the beginning of the third quarter, made a jump shot and tied the score 24-24. The Panthers maintained offense, but Angeni Worley blocked a layup, keeping the score competitive at 26-28. The Lady Braves remained close behind at the end quarter, with a 28-30 score.

The fourth quarter went back and forth between the Lady Braves and the Panthers. Quintana scored a 3-pointer, putting the team in the lead 38-37, with 12 seconds left in the game. However, the Panthers scored with four seconds remaining. After a time-out the Lady Braves, did not recover from Dr. Phillips’ one-point lead.

Come out and support the Lady Braves as they take on the Colonial Grenadiers at Colonial High School on Dec. 2 at 7:30 pm.
