On Apr. 14, the Lady Braves softball (22-4) took on Winter Park High School (16-6) at home to bring home another win.
In the top of the first inning, senior Karla Plogstedt made three quick strikeouts sending the Lady Braves up to bat. Senior Rachel Lopez then nailed a deep dinger to center field for a double. Moments later, senior Kelsi Smith sent the ball right over the first base line for a triple, sending Lopez home. The score advanced to 1-0.
After an out and two strikeouts the Lady Braves came back out to the field for the top of second. Sophomore Avery Clark made two outs and senior Adriana Garip caught a pop up for the final out.
In the bottom of the second the score remained 1-0. Back at bat, the Winter Park Wildcats scored one run off of three base hits, then sent another runner home off of a deep dinger. The score advanced to 1-2.
In the bottom of the third inning, Smith hit her second triple of the night, then proceeded home off of a base hit from senior Rachael Carroll. Moments later, Carroll came home and freshman Zaniyah Morgan followed right behind her off a hit from Clark. Clark and Garip also came home. The score advanced to 6-2.
At the top of the forth inning the Wildcats walked away scoreless. Then Smith came into the bottom of the forth sending junior Kathleen Cairns home. Carroll also put a run on the board. The score advanced to 8-2.
In the fifth inning neither team scored, leaving it at an 8-2 game. The sixth inning started strong for the Wildcats as they brought in two runs making the score, 8-4. Back at bat, sophomore Ashley Bell bunted in Smith for a run. Carroll and Clark also scored runs, bringing the total to 11-4.
In the top of the seventh the Wildcats were not able to score, closing the game out.
The Lady Braves sit at 23-4 for the season. Their next game is home April 19 against Timber Creek High School (15-2) at 7 p.m.
