After last week’s win the Braves (2-3) did it again, this time against the Winter Park Wildcats (4-1). They started the game strong when Andrew Dawson kicked a field goal in the first quarter making the score 3-o.
Winter Park bounced back with a touchdown and field goal making the score 3-7. The score stayed the same throughout the second quarter with little action, except an interception by Thomas Townsend. The crowd had little entertainment the first half, due to both teams putting up good defense.
At half time, fans witnessed junior teachers Robin Patterson and Cassandra Stilwell kiss a pig as part of the annual fundraiser.
The third quarter left each team scoreless, proving it was a more difficult game than the Winter Park team, No. 12 of the Sentinel Super 16, may have thought.
With the score 3-7, the fourth quarter wasn’t looking promising for the Braves until junior Alexis Bergan scored a touchdown and senior Andrew Dawson made the extra point making the score 10-7.
In the last minute of regulation play, Winter Park tied the game with a field goal, 10-10.
Both the Braves and the Wildcats waited in anticipation as the game went into overtime. Winter Park scored a field goal, 10-13. For the win, Alexis Bergan scored a second touchdown of the night defeating Winter Park, 16-10.
The Braves take on the Dr. Phillips Panthers next Friday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m. away.
