On Friday, March 13, the Lady Braves lacrosse team was victorious over Cypress Creek after a very physical game.
As soon as the starting whistle blewn, Cypress Creek’s offense made a break for goal. Junior Rita Whittam played great defense but the ball found it’s way into the back of the net; Cypress Creek scored the opening goal of the game. Soon after Cypress made another attempt but goalie, senior Rachel Rector blocked the shot.
Scoring two quick goals in succession, senior Dora Muratovic put the Lady Braves in the lead, 2-1. Cypress then retaliated with a goal of their own to tie the game.
After Rector made another fantastic save and cleared it halfway across the field, sophomore Emily Darr whipped the ball into the back of the unsuspecting Cypress keeper’s net, for her first goal of the game.
Sophomore Madalyn Benton took a tumble, as well as many of her teammates, as a result of some dirty playing by Cypress Creek. Yet with this added difficulty, they were up at half, 3-2.
With the start of the second half the Lady Braves found their groove. From defense, junior Kaitlyn Driskell threw a long pass down the field, that later allowed Darr to add another point to the board. Off another quick, well-developed play Benton made a goal bringing the score to 5-2.
Following another shove, Benton came off the field with a limp, walked it out, and was soon ready to rejoin the battle. Before she got back on the field, Cypress Creek snuck in another shot, closing the score, 5-3.
On fire, Muratovic scored her third goal for the night but Cypress trailed close behind as they added another goal, 6-4. Not to worry, after Benton had to redo the play four times, she scored her second goal of the night giving the Lady Braves a nice lead. The game wrapped up with the defeat against Cypress Creek, 7-4.
The Lady Braves’ next home lacrosse game is March 16 against Freedom High School at 7:30 p.m.
