After experimenting with a different sound and leaving behind her Disney days, Miley Cyrus released her new album, Bangerz.
Right after its Oct. 8 midnight release, Bangerz climbed to the top of the iTunes charts at No. 1.
A week prior to its release, iTunes exclusively streamed it online for free.
iTunes customers gave Bangerz a 3.5 out of 5 stars rating.
Producers such as Pharell Williams and Dr. Luke and featured artists, like Britney Spears, Nelly, Big Sean, French Montana, Ludacris and Future contributed to her new, more mature sound.
With 16 songs, Bangerz varies from a sound similar to Cyrus’ previous hit singles, “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball.” “We Can’t Stop” has more of a party vibe while “Wrecking Ball” is more sentimental. She incorporates the different sounds throughout the album. The most popular songs on iTunes are “Adore You,” “We Can’t Stop,” “Wrecking Ball,” “Drive,” “Maybe You’re Right” and “Someone Else.”
The music videos to “We Can’t Stop” and “Wrecking Ball” created controversy. The “We Can’t Stop” video consisted of racy party scenes, while the “Wrecking Ball” video contained some partially nude scenes.
Cyrus is known for her notorious risk-taking attitude and while its disagreeable, it is still benefitting her. Both her fans and critics have lead to “Wrecking Ball’s” record on VEVO for being the only video to get over 100 million views in 37 days.
On Oct. 5, Cyrus hosted Saturday Night Live. The cast of SNL and Cyrus mocked the government shutdown with a parody of “We Can’t Stop.” Cyrus played Michele Bachman and Taran Killam played John Boehner. She then performed “Wrecking Ball” and an acoustic version of “We Can’t Stop.”
