On Jan. 30, in the Wayne Rickman gymnasium, the boys basketball team defeated the Edgewater Eagles, 68-55, marking the fourth consecutive win against the Eagles.

The first quarter started with a tie, Junior Jeremy Bouton helped the team lead with a three pointer, followed a free throw by junior Cole Butler. Senior William Mateer ended the first quarter with a long 3-pointer and gave the team a five point lead, 11-6. Barry “BJ” Taylor started the second quarter with a 3-pointer and senior Jamal Clark followed with two free throws. The first half ended when Taylor made one of two free throws and put the score at 25-23.

Early in the third quarter, Edgewater took the lead. Sophomore Jaquarius “Q” Bargnare made a basket, and put the team in the lead by one point, 27-26. Bouton made a 3-pointer and Edgewater answered with a 3-pointer. After stealing the ball, Bargnare made another basket, bringing the score to 49-45 at the end of the third quarter.

At the start of the fourth quarter, Senior Cobey Bates made two points followed by Taylor for another two. After a 3-pointer by Bouton and two free throws from Taylor, the team had a 10 point lead.  Taylor had 33 points and Bargnare had 10.

Boone will host Cypress Creek for the 8A District 4 Semifinals on Feb. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
