On Thursday, Feb. 27, Lady Braves lacrosse (3-2) defeated Sebastian River (2-0) in an evenly matched game.
Three minutes after the starting whistle blew, Sebastian River caught the defense by surprise with a quick play and scored the first goal of the game. The Braves, on the counterattack, scored to tie the game.
Sophomore Madalyn Benton scored her first goal of the night and the Braves took the lead. Quickly following the play, passing and teamwork resulted in yet another goal for Benton.
The Sebastian River Sharks took a shot on goal but senior goalie Rachel Rector made the save. Once the girls worked their way down field, sophomore Emily Darr whipped the ball into the back of the net bringing the score to 4-1.
Coming from behind, Sebastian River scored two fast goals. With minutes left until the half, Sebastian River score yet again rounding out the first 25 minutes at 4-4.
After a refreshing halftime, Benton came out on fire and scored her third goal of the night, followed by another goal from a teammate. Although, soon after Sebastian River make a comeback to tie the game again, 6-6.
The closely matched teams went back and forth; the Sharks scored to take the lead, but a goal from senior Dora Muratovic helped keep them in check. One more goal by each team tied the game yet again.
With five minutes left a Lady Brave pus the ball into the back of the net and junior Kaitlyn Driskell followed closely behind with another to win the game 10-8.
Lady Braves lacrosse’s next home game is March 2 as they take on Lake Minneola (1-3) at 7 p.m.
