With home pool advantage, both the boys and girls water polo teams defeated the Cypress Creek Bears on March 8.
The girls started strong in the first quarter with sophomore Grace McGee, senior Kennedy Anderson and junior Molly Houston scoring goals. The quarter ended with the Lady Braves up 6-0.
Freshman River Hastings began the second quarter by winning the swim off, giving the Braves possession of the ball. Cypress Creek shot, but sophomore goalie Chloe Conyers blocked it. Hastings and sophomore Abigail Smith scored goals ending the second quarter, 10-0.
During the fourth quarter the Lady Braves received a man down penalty, and the Bears scored their first goal making the score 12-1.
The girls game ended with freshman Holly Arquette scoring the final goal, 13-1.
The boys game started with Cypress Creek taking shots that junior goalie Charlie Bozeman blocked. The boys ended the first quarter in the lead, 2-0. Senior Patrick Egan and junior Samuel Gentry-Mickelson scored during the second quarter keeping them ahead.
The boys team started the second quarter with junior Ryan Paule winning the swim off. Senior Giancarlo Ottone scored a goal bringing the score to 8-0.
Cypress Creek scored their first goal during the second quarter bringing the score to 9-1. Closely following their first goal, the Bears score two more.
Egan and junior Andy Hoogvorst scored goals in the third quarter. Cypress Creek made a five meter penalty shot, which brought the score to 12-6.
In the last quarter, freshman Ethan Mortenson scored his first goal with Gentry-Mickelson then making one.
Boone beat Cypress Creek 14-8 after goals by both teams.
The water polo teams will compete in the Winter Park Invitational meet at the YMCA Aquatic Center on March 11 and March 12.
