On Wednesday, Feb. 17, the Lady Braves lacrosse team (0-2) travelled to Lake Nona (2-1-2) seeking their first win of the season.
Early in the first half senior Kaitlyn Driskell scored a goal with an assist from junior Madelyn Benton starting the team with a lead. The Braves lead Lake Nona 2-1 after Driskell scored her second goal of the game.
The Lions pushed through the defense and scored a goal making the score 3-1 in the middle of the first half.
With 4:35 left in the half, sophomore Jessica Shutack attempted a goal, but the Lake Nona goalie blocked it. The final goal of the half from junior Emily Darr brought the team out on top, 3-1.
Beginning the second half, Darr got the turnover after the Lions’ goalie attempted to throw the ball back out. Senior Aramente Connery scored a goal, making it a 4-1 game.
In an attempt to come back, the Lions took a shot and freshman Payton Johnson blocked it. Benton brought the score to 5-1 after her first goal of the night with 19:21 left in the game.
Lake Nona’s goalie received a foul giving Connery an attempt at a free shot, she scored, putting it at 6-1. Johnson blocked another goal and the score remained.
Connery scored her third goal of the night, with 9:57 left the Lady Braves lead, 7-1. Benton and freshman Sydney Haselden scored back-to-back goals.
The Lions scored, making the score 9-2, with 7:11 to go in the game. With 2:00 left the score remained until Lake Nona shot their third goal of the night, 9-3.
After a final goal from the Lions the Lady Braves defeated Lake Nona, 9-4, for their first win of the season. Come out to Freedom High School (0-2) on Friday, Feb. 19 as the team returns to action.
